How deep should a patio base be?
For a standard patio, you need a minimum of 100–150mm of compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base beneath a mortar or slurry bed. Many failed patios have inadequate bases — we excavate and prepare to the correct depth every time.
Do I need planning permission for a patio?
In most cases, no planning permission is needed for a standard garden patio. If you live in a listed building or conservation area, additional checks may be required. We'll flag any concerns during the site visit.
How long does a patio installation take?
A typical garden patio takes 2–4 days depending on size, material choice and ground conditions. We give you a clear programme at the quote stage so you know what to expect — no vague timelines.
Can you remove my existing old patio first?
Yes. We handle full break-out and removal of existing patios, concrete slabs and block paving as part of our service. All spoil is removed from site — no skips left on your drive for weeks.
